FAQ's

HOW LONG ARE THE CAMPS?
We run camps for five nights or a weekend break.

WHO LOOKS AFTER MY CHILD?
Your child will be looked after by carefully recruited volunteers, both male and female, who are vetted through the CRB system, attend extensive and on-going training and whose references we have checked. On the first day of the camp you will meet the adult who will be looking after your CYP while they are away with CCHF.

WHEN I WANT TO CONTACT MY CHILD, WHO DO I RING?
The Leader’s mobile number will be sent to you in the confirmation letter.  As we want the children and young people (CYP) to have as much fun as possible, we ask parents to a call only in emergencies. CYPs will call home on the evening of their arrival to let you know they have arrived safely.

WHO’S WHO IN THE CCHF CHILDREN’S TEAM?
The Children’s Team is made up of the Head of Children’s Team and Training, Volunteer and Activities Co-ordinator, the Referrals Liaison Co-ordinator,  and the Chef and Facilities Co-ordinator.  The Child Protection Lead Officer is the Chief Executive. There will be members of the staff team in the office at the holiday site.
There will be a member of staff on-call who will be available to support the Group Leader 24 hours a day in case of emergencies. Each holiday leader will have undergone additional training with CCHF and has been part of many CCHF holidays in the past. They bring a wealth of qualities and experience to each holiday.

DOES MY CHILD NEED POCKET MONEY?
This is not necessary. Past experience shows that children and young people find it hard to spend pocket money as all activities are included. However, if you wish your CYP to take pocket money £5 is plenty.

WHERE WILL MY CHILD SLEEP?
CYPs sleep in small double or single rooms at our Activity Centre.

WHERE IS THE ACTIVITY CENTRE?
The Activity Centre is based in the glorious countryside of West Sussex close to the sea.

WHAT IF MY CHILD IS A FUSSY EATER?
CYPs will be provided with a healthy menu which will always offer choice, particularly for vegetarians and others with special diets. We always encourage healthy eating and include lots of fruit and home made snacks in the food provided.  We also have a Smoothie Bar every morning and our Chef is always open to new menu suggestions.

CAN MY CHILD GO WITH HIS/ HER FRIENDS?
Please give details of the friend your CYP wishes to go on a camp with, on the application form.

WHAT IF MY CHILD DOESN’T WANT TO GO WITH A PARTICULAR CHILD?
Please give details of the child your child does not wish to go on holiday with on the application form.

WHERE DO I GO TO DROP OFF AND PICK UP MY CHILD?
The drop-off and pick-up point will be confirmed in your Camp Confirmation Pack.

WHAT WILL MY CHILD DO ON THE CAMP?
Please call 01273 847771 to speak to the Children’s Team about the activities we offer for CYPs.

WHAT IF MY CHILD IS HOMESICK?
We will encourage CYPs to stay as long as possible but if they are really unhappy you may need to collect them from the Residential Centre in Sussex. CCHF STAFF OR VOLUNTEERS WILL NOT BE ABLE TO RETURN YOUR CYPs TO LONDON FOR THIS REASON.

WHAT IF I HAVE BEEN ASKED TO COLLECT MY CHILD DUE TO ILL HEALTH OR BAD BEHAVIOUR?
Unfortunately, we do not have spare volunteers or staff to return your CYP to you so you would be expected to collect him/her from the Residential Centre within 3 hours of such a request being made.
